2026 Artistic Goals

Yes, unfortunately… another one of these. This blog is really more of a journal for now anyway, based on traffic (or lack thereof). I will have separate personal goals written down elsewhere. Also, I want to get myself out of the box of photography. Though photography, more specifically street photography, remains my main focus, there are other things I plan to explore to expand my creativity and exercise my imagination. I’ll separate these into categories:

  1. Photography

    • Limit myself to my main (3) bodies and my aforementioned 35mm lens. This one will become controversial shortly! NOTE: One body is film, while the other two are digital.

    • Add some instant media here and there. I bought a nice Polaroid camera this year. Also, my sister and brother in law bought me a vintage Land Camera not long ago that I have not yet used. I plan to take it on a hiking trip, but not sure which hike just yet.

    • Shoot more film, and more specifically B&W film. My fridge has more film than food. Also, I bought a bulk loader and a roll of bulk B&W film, but have not yet used it. The goal behind the goal is practicing light and composition.

    • Abstain from buying any camera bodies this year! Now, there is one exception I have to this which is a medium format camera. I will not say which one it is, but if I happen to get it then I will come forward with that confession. Really, I want to have less than I have now to focus on what’s important. I did not want to have a gear goal here, but I think that this one is appropriate.

    • Develop and Scan my own film. I have just about everything I need for this except for the chem kit, and the knowledge. What’s been holding me back for the longest is consideration for what to do with the chemicals once they’ve been used. I do care, and don’t want them to go where they shouldn’t. A little education on this is all that it’ll take me to get going.

  2. Videography

    • Begin short film content. A lot of content creators put out just about anything. I don’t want to do that. I want to put something out there that I would watch; not just me making talking about my day. It’s my own personal preference, and I know that it’ll make things more difficult, but I want to be proud of what I create in lieu of creating content for content’s-sake.

  3. Sketching

    • Sketch daily items, and work on charcoal drawings. I bought some things a while ago to sketch, and even now have colored pencils and whatnot, but haven’t done much with it.

    • Determine what I like to draw. I don’t have a style or topic that I prefer so I have no clue what to draw at the moment. I love animation and cartoons, but I don’t see myself leaning that way. Honestly I think daily life (like what I document in photography) will end up being what I sketch. However, I won’t know until I do.

  4. Music

    • Continue to play. This is a simple goal. Becoming a rockstar was a pipe dream because I made it so. I didn’t practice the way I should have. I gave up, and did not follow up with contacts that I had. That’s all fine and I accept the lesson. I don’t want to lose the joy that I received when jamming.

  5. Books

    • Read one book every two months. Now, looking up the statistics, this time frame is ridiculous! I should be reading a lot more. However, I want to keep things attainable and realistic. This goal is both to un-plug and to keep my mind working well.

    • Review one photography book every month. Photography books are collections of pictures, and they are expensive, so hopefully I can find these at the local library or used bookstore.

  6. Social Media

    • Expand my channel. Social media is truly a gift and a curse. It allows you to reach people from all corners of the world, but it also keeps you glued to your channel which takes time away from your art. Anyway, I’d like to share what I create with others if it provides them any inspiration for them to create.

I didn’t plan to write a long list but this is what resulted.

What’re your art goals for 2026? Do they resonate with mine? Are they completely opposite? Regardless of that, I highly recommend that you reflect on what they are to help yourself and, most importantly, WRITE THEM DOWN.

MVP over and out for 2025. Happy New Year.
